Our client is one of the UK's leading Waste Management specialist and are passionate about transforming everyday waste into high quality raw materials and a valuable Energy source. They provide full collection and recycling facilities across the East Sussex region and are looking for a Transport Manager to join them and help drive the business forward.
About the role
The position is for a Transport Manager working as part of the PFI contract based at St Leonards-on-Sea. You will have a number of drivers and operational staff working under you and you will be managing these teams and ensuring our client continues to offer a first class service the local authority and end users.
Your duties will include
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Transport Manager on a 30 year PFI contract based in East Sussex. You will be responsible for the day to day haulage operations including service delivery, compliance, Health & Safety and the management of 40 staff covering the whole of East Sussex.
You will be required to implement, guide and control operations, safety, maintenance, performance, quality and cost effectiveness in the transport department alongside the management of a fleet of circa 25 units comprised of both rigid and articulated LGV vehicles. The role also requires the control of repair costs, charges via maintenance contracts and drivers' hours; ensuring they are working within legal parameters.
You must maintain safe working procedures through training and assessment and reduce the vehicle environmental impact using available technology route/vehicle economy & staff training. You will also provide an excellent quality of service and provide timely deliveries to the client. Responsibility for overseeing the day to day planning and ensure that solutions are given to customers to meet their needs. A proactive approach to haulage operations across the contact is necessary.
To be considered for the role you will need
Candidates must be able to demonstrate previous experience within a similar role alongside strong people management skills. The role also requires you to have an In-depth knowledge of transport operations with route planning experience. Exceptional communication skills are a must. A CPC is considered advantageous, although this can be obtained whilst in the role.
