Shift Operations Technician - CCGT Power Station

£38,000 - £50,000 + benefits



We are currently recruiting for a Shift Operations Technician to join the Operations department of a 350MW CCGT Power Station in the Northamptonshire area. The Shift Operations Technician will be responsible for starting, stopping and the day to day running of the power station via a DCS from the control room and assisting the Shift Team Leader as required.

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Shift Team Leader you will be responsible for:

  • The safe and efficient start up, shut down and operation of gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, compressors and water treatment plant
  • Monitoring plant performance and alarms via the DCS and making adjustments accordingly
  • Maintaining shift operations records and preparing reports on plant operations
  • Monitoring pressure, temperatures, flows and emissions around the plant
  • Carrying out first line maintenance routines to maintain plant availability and reliability
  • Work flexibly to meet changing operational and business requirements
  • Carrying out project work and activities when required
  • Working within the company HSEQ systems

Skills & Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A relevant technical qualification such as an HNC/ONC in an engineering discipline e.g. mechanical, electrical, process etc
  • At least 3 years of experience in an operational environment on a power station, ideally a CCGT / CHP (utilising gas turbines). Senior Royal Navy Marine Engineers with significant watch-keeping experience will also be considered (Petty Officer/Chief Petty Officers)
  • An excellent understanding of power generation / power station operations
  • A flexible approach to working/shift patterns

Salary & Package

What's on offer for this role:

  • A starting salary of circa £32,000
  • A shift allowance of 25%
  • A company pension
  • Overtime or TOIL
  • 25 days holiday + 8BH

A higher salary can be achieved based on performance and operational achievements to a maximum of £40,000 + shift pay. The time to achieve this can vary between 12 - 18 months.
