LOCATION Cambridge

We are currently working with a leading International Waste Management & Environment specialist who are looking to expand their maintenance team on their state of art MBT facility in Cambridge.

Our client is one of the UK's leading Waste Management and Environmental Specialists and as such provide a complete waste management program for Cambridge County Council, processing and recycling all of their "black bin waste". Across the 400 acre Cambridgeshire site they operate a large scale MBT 24 hr processing plant which uses specialist plant and machinery to break down waste before it is either sent to landfill or used as a fuel in the Energy Recovery sector.

The role itself

Our client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter / Technician to join them working on the 8-hour night shift, Monday to Friday. With a strong mechanical or multi skilled background you will work closely with the Maintenance Manager to help supervisor the maintenance team, but at the same time still have a very hands on approach.
Prior plant maintenance experience is essential and prior knowledge of working with conveyors, optical sorting systems, trommels, shredders, pumps, air scrubbing systems, PLC's, inverters relays, hydraulics and pneumatics. General industrial electrical experience would also be highly advantageous.

Key responsibilities will include

Reporting into the Maintenance Manager in a Supervisor capacity you will be responsible for carrying out a full range of maintenance activities on the plant, both preventative and reactive. You will need to keep updated on all current and new legislative requirements, company procedures, and H&S standards across the waste sector and ensure the team are working to these guidelines.

Working with the company's maintenance management system you will help plan the necessary reactive and maintenance tasks for the shift and work closely with the team to ensure these are carried out. Reporting any potential problems and your activities to the Maintenance Supervisor at shift handover.

Working with and liaise with the SHEQ team ensuring that all the necessary information is collected and collated for hazard and near miss reporting. Ensure all relevant data is being collected and findings/trends are being presented to sites management team in a clear and concise manner.

To ensure all relevant quality requirements are met and maintained, to include training of personnel, accurate data entry on to the sites database and reporting of statistical information to the management team and third parties when required. Taking responsibility to manage sub-contractors whilst on site.

To help promote and manage a presentative approach to maintenance. Working with the operational teams on the night shift to identify potential engineering problems and tackle them accordingly.

What you will need to be able to demonstrate to be considered for the role

  • You will need to be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of the day to day maintenance operations found on a waste / recycling / aggregate / chemical / processing plant and a sound grasp of the H&S and legislative issues also found on such a site.
  • Be educated to City & Guilds or NVQ Level in Engineering, with a strong hands on Engineering approach.
  • Good supervisory / leadership skills with the ability to think on your own two feet.
  • IOSH or COSHH qualified
  • Computer literate and able to report and document engineering tasks on the PPM system.
  • Must be based within commutable distance of Cambridge with a full driving licence.
  • Vocational plant operating certificate consider an advantage
