Safety Systems Engineer - EFW Power Station

Circa £55,900 + healthcare + benefits

North London

Introduction...

We are currently recruiting a Safety Systems Engineer to join the operations department of an Energy from Waste power station in the North London area. The Safety Systems Engineer will primarily work days and be responsible for issuing safety documents under the direction of the Shift Manager as well as releasing plant equipment for maintenance work. They will also be required to ensure the EFW plant is operating within the sites environmental permit.

Responsibilities...

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Releasing plant for maintenance and issuing safety documents under the direction of the Shift Manager
  • Being the primary interface with the maintenance department in terms of identifying defects and liaising with the Shift Manager in prioritising safety documents for the release of plant when needed
  • Reviewing the site safety rules systems and procedures and put forward recommendations to improve these
  • Reviewing risk assessments and method statements
  • Supporting the maintenance team with outage planning


This is primarily a day role but there will be a requirement at times to deputise for the Shift Manager during periods of illness or holidays. Therefore, you will need to be able to work some shift on occasions


Knowledge, Skills and Experience...

To be considered for this position you must have:

  • A relevant technical qualification in an engineering discipline, ideally HND/HNC/ONC in mechanical or electrical engineering or similar
  • Significant operations experience gained in the EFW or power generation sector, ideally at Shift Team Leader / Shift Manager level
  • Excellent understanding of Safe Systems of Work including; Permits and Risk Assessments
  • Hold or held Senior Authorised Person status
  • A good understanding of H&S practices and procedures associated with the power industry. A NEBOSH or IOSH is preferred
