We are currently recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to work at a large 735MW gas fired power station near Rochester in Kent. Using CCGT technology the plant consists of 2 gas turbines a steam turbine, HRSG boilers, generators, water treatment plant, cooling systems, pumps, motors, compressors and much more. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for managing the engineering activities associated with the sites large rotating plant.

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, as the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the site expert for all mechanical equipment and rotating plant, focusing on plant integrity and plant life maintenance
  • Developing asset management and maintenance strategies
  • Implementing maintenance techniques and best practices
  • Management of site projects
  • Delivery of an effective outage strategy
  • Engineering and managing mechanical plant developments/ projects
  • Managing high value maintenance contracts
  • Directing mechanical technicians and contractors
  • Ensuring HSE compliance at all times
  • Budget management

Skills & Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A relevant engineering qualification at ideally HNC level or higher. Qualifications below this level will be considered coupled with extensive relevant industry experience
  • At least 5 years of experience gained in a heavy process industry ideally power generation but candidates from refineries, steel works or the marine industry will be considered
  • Excellent technical knowledge of large rotating plant such as Gas and Steam Turbines
  • Management of outages
  • Contract management experience
  • Budget / financial responsibility
  • The highest regards for health, safety and environmental compliance
