Reactor Chemist - Technical Consultant


Bristol or Warrington - £30-50,000 DOE



Introduction


Astute are looking for a chemist with current reactor chemistry experience to work in a consultancy environment providing technical support to an exciting ongoing project in the UK civil nuclear sector.



The Person


With demonstrable prior experience of analysing and modelling radiation and corrosive effects on materials in reactor systems, you will be keen to develop your knowledge in this field with the goal of becoming a subject matter expert.


In addition to your technical expertise you will be comfortable working in a client facing scenario, with the ability to maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders and the capacity to clearly and concisely convey complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.



Skills Required

  • Chemistry Degree or equivalent in a related subject
  • Radiochemistry experience is essential, ideally relating to fault studies in nuclear plants
  • Reactor coolant chemistry, and an understanding of materials selection and corrosion mechanisms is desired
  • Current knowledge of AGR, PWR or ABWR reactor systems would be advantageous, with future potential to work on SMR and AMR projects likely
  • A working understanding of safety case production, alongside BAT and ALARP principles
