Operations Manager - Energy from Waste
East London

We are looking for an Operations Manager, with a view to turn Plant Manager (in a number of years), for a large Energy from Waste Power Station located on the Thames in East London. As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day to day Operational activities on site, ensuring key performance indicators are met, the plant is run in a safe and efficient manner whilst aligning production with the short & long-term strategy of the station.

With a new plant under development, this is an exciting time to join one of London's largest independent waste management companies with a view to becoming Plant Manager over the next 3 - 5 years.

Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting directly to Plant Manager as Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the plant
  • The day to day management of all operations staff including shift teams and operations day staff
  • Overseeing the sites Health & Safety policies and ensures that this is upheld on site
  • Ensuring the EfW plant operates and complies within environmental regulations at all times, ensuring emissions are monitored in line with the environmental permit
  • Liaising with the Maintenance Manager and other relevant personnel regarding projects maintenance, outages and programming of plant improvements
  • Overseeing 3rd party contractors
  • Preparing the annual budget for the operations department for review and work within this budget
  • Liaising with company directors and managers as well as external stakeholders such as contractors, principal client and the environmental agency
  • Working with the General Manager and Maintenance Manager on any ongoing recruitment requirements
  • Deputising for the General Manager and Maintenance Manager when required

Skills & Qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • HNC / ONC / HND minimum level Engineering qualification and a member of a recognised Engineering Institute
  • Recognised as a Senior Authorised Person for High Voltage Electrical Systems
  • IOSH or NEBOSH in Health & Safety with relevant knowledge of all applicable legislation such as PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work etc
  • Previous Management experience (at Operational / Shift Team Leader) level of an Energy from Waste or Similar Steam Raising process (CHP, Biomass, Paper Mill)
  • Experience in management of an Operational budget, Environmental Permits, H&S issues and staff training & development

We're ideally looking for someone who's working currently as a Shift Team Leader or Operations Manager of an existing Energy from Waste Power Station who is looking to take on a new challenge, due to the development of a new plant on site, this role will naturally progress to a plant manager position and with that in mind, are looking for dynamic and ambitious candidates who wish to progress their career further.
