Job Description

Operations & Maintenance Manager- New Build Energy from Waste
£50,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits


As the O&M Manager on this new build biomass power station, you will be involved in leading the O&M team through commissioning and into commercial operation. Utilising gasification / advanced thermal treatment technology, the site uses waste wood as its primary fuel source to produce up to 21.5MW of power, enough to provide power for over 40,000 homes.

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, as the Operations & Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Looking after the daily operational and maintenance activities on site, preparing work schedules, reviewing documentation staff development
  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the power plant
  • Ensure compliance with the company SHEQ policies, Environmental Permit and all relevant legislation
  • Liaise across both Operations & Maintenance teams to ensure plant availability is at its maximum, scheduling works to minimise downtime
  • Maintain, develop and manage the CMMS, Document System and Stores Systems ensuring relevant and up to date information is available at all times
  • Plan and schedule all day to day maintenance and plan long term outages/engineering strategy
  • Liaise with the O&M Team to plan the annual budget

Skills and Qualification

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • HND/ HNC in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • H&S qualification to IOSH Managing Safely level
  • Strong process engineering background, preferably in the power industry including steam raising plant
  • Robust appreciation of Health, Safety and Environmental procedures
  • Experience preparing detailed plans, reports and programs
  • Experience in managing contractors and consultants
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and delegate effectively

The ideal candidate will be educated to a Degree level in a relevant Engineering discipline, hold a NEBOSH certificate and have proven working experience in a management capacity on an Energy from Waste Power Station and worked on Steam Raising Plant, Pressure Systems and to current CDM Regulations.
