Mechanical Design Engineer

6 Month Contract


ASAP Start

Circa £250 Per Day, Limited Company Rate

Our Client is a leading provider of waste and energy management services.

An opportunity is available to join our Client on a contract basis as a Mechanical Design Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design and will be working within a team of design engineers completing the design of a process plant in the UK.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overall responsibility for the mechanical design of a project or tender
  • Dealing with the purchasing of equipment including evaluation quotations and reviewing supply-chain design documentation to be integrated into plant designs
  • Working with the CAD Designer and other Design Engineers to create and evolve P&IDs, General Arrangement and detailed drawings to define the design of the plant
  • Developing piping and equipment layouts
  • Contributing to HAZOP process
  • Undertaking Design Risk Assessment and capturing the outcomes
  • Communicating and retaining close-liaison with Site Managers and Commissioning Managers during the key stages of the project
  • Liaising with Client Design Engineers
  • Managing own workload to achieve the design deliverables required of the project/tender
  • Attend Client or Supplier meetings, both onsite and offsite

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Engineering Qualification (Degree or HND) to demonstrate a core competence in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience of working with the equipment and technologies used commonly within the water treatment industry
  • Demonstrable experience of driving forward design processes to meet the project deliverables
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work within a small team and coordinate activities to drive the team forward
  • Considerable experience in interpretation and understanding of P&IDs
  • Competence of interpretation and understanding of both 2D and 3D General Arrangement drawings
  • Knowledge of process plant design with the understanding of key design features of the process plant/equipment
  • Excellent time management skills with an ability to plan tasks around the timescales of other designers
  • Ability to work well within Detailed Design at project execution stage and Preliminary Design during the tender stage of a project
  • Excellent MS Office Skills
