Our client are one of the UK's leading Waste Management specialist and as such provide a complete range of collection, treatment and disposal services to both commercial and domestic customers on a nationwide basis. With a large collection of Landfill sites, both open and closed situated in the Midlands and SE they are look for someone who can join them and manage this exciting and often overlooked area within their business.


About the role


An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Site Manager to join our client's Landfill team, providing operations and technical control over both open and closed sites across the region.
As the Site Manager you will be responsible for the overall H&S of all staff, both direct reports and visiting sub-contractors and have a strong understanding of the Environmental controls and legislation covering this important part of their business.


You will also be tasked with implementing management strategies and reviewing performance to maximise revenue and minimise costs associated with the management of the landfill sites and their environmental control and leachate systems. You will also assist in the management of projects/contractors building infrastructure during operation and closure and manage contractors at sites where they are employed to control and manage environmental control and leachate systems.


Your main duties will include


Responsibilities include ensuring sites comply with their Permit conditions, and environmental and health and safety compliance is achieved. Ensuring environmental control and leachate systems are available, and that their performance is optimised and costs minimised.
Work closely with the Engineering team to ensure projects and systems are installed within budget and time constraints.

Develop environmental control, leachate systems and solutions to optimise extraction, recirculation and maintain compliance, and deal with aftercare of closed landfalls.

This particular Landfill is working in partnership with the HS2 sidings project and will therefore include building strong working relationships with the Project Delivery team as this project moves forward.


Develop and manage routine performance assessment systems to include amongst other matters environmental control and for leachate management, extraction, treatment and disposal.


Checks and evaluates environmental and financial data to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations, permits and financial targets. Implements checking processes.
Advise line management on technical and financial matters.


About your Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications


To be successful in your application for this role we require candidates to have a clear understanding of the landfill process and operation across the whole site. This should include landfill design and construction, waste input, waste degradation / methanogenesis, leachate production, capture and treatment.


Extensive experience within the industry is required as this role is all about developing the Landfill business and exploring other Recycling avenues that can be adopted on this and other sites. Although not an Engineering role a strong understanding of landfill management systems including infrastructure on the landfill itself and environmental control and leachate systems/ treatment plant and ability to manage contractors/suppliers is considered desirable.


You will be skilled in the assessment of data to establish performance characteristics and be able to develop and implement solutions to improve performance. You will be proficient in report writing and problem solving, formulating ideas to manage issues as they arise, and be able to undertake cost analysis and cost benefit assessments.


Educated to A level standard is really the minimum requirement, however a relevant Engineering / Science / Geotechnical Degree would prove desirable along with the relevant CoTC. They are looking for someone who can really think outside the box and maximise these sites potential.
