Engineering Supervisor - MRF Recycling - Leicester - Up to £40k

Our client is one of the leading Waste Management specialists operating here in the UK and provides a comprehensive range of collection and recycling services across the East Midlands. Their facility offers a full recycling led sorting and processing service using dedicated material handling and sorting equipment to separate the feedstock into various constituent components, and forms part of a 25-year PFI contract for the East Midlands region.

The role itself

Reporting to the Plant Manager and Operations Manager the purpose of the role is to take responsibility for the engineering and maintenance functions on site, managing the team's workload and prioritising in order of importance. Working closely with management you will be tasked with improving the PPM and the inspection programme in order to minimise downtime and will work with the team to keep a record of potential faults and problems before they become an issue.

Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for day to day engineering functions ensuring prioritisation of the engineering teams' workload
  • Control/ Develop/ Improve a planned preventative maintenance and inspection programme to minimise downtime, provide records of recurrent faulting and develop engineered solutions.

  • Provide high operational availability, and an efficient breakdown repair service. Diagnosis running faults and ensuring effective repairs and improvements are conducted within minimum time scale.

  • Ensure productivity and availability exceeds minimum defined standards, whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations.

  • To liaise with external contractors on specific repairs/maintenance work in accordance with Group procedures.

  • Lead CAPEX projects and major installation/improvement works

  • Control plant maintenance, spares and consumable costs in line with budget, ensuring critical stock levels are maintained

  • Manage shift handovers to ensure effective communication of works orders and priorities
  • Keep abreast of changes to health & safety and environmental legislation and Company policies to ensure defined standards and best practice are implemented.

  • Ensure compliance with all Company policies, processes and procedures.

  • Review maintenance activities, implementing necessary corrective actions as required.

  • Responsible for monitoring and controlling engineering team shift coverage, holidays and absence reporting

Your skills and knowledge

To be considered for this role the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate significant engineering experience in a similar sector, be it Waste, Quarrying, agricultural, manufacturing or process engineer, combined with a relevant mechanical / electrical engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 minimum, Time served Apprenticeship, etc.)

As discussed, the role will encompass managing both the people and maintenance engineering side of the business in a very process lead working environment. Ideally you will have previously worked within an automated process-based manufacturing environment and an understanding of Lean Manufacturing and six sigma methodology.

A knowledge of Waste Recycling would be helpful but equally prior experience in FMCG, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Heavy Industrial, Aggregates, Quarrying, Energy Recovery, etc. would be considered.

This is a Monday to Friday post, however some occasional weekend work maybe required as this is often the only time some maintenance can be carried out whilst the plant is in shutdown.
