Location: Cambridgeshire / Peterborough

Salary: £60,000 + Company Car

Description

My client is looking to strengthen their Engineering Team with a Design Manager for our @one Alliance (Anglian Water) joint venture framework. Within this role you will drive efficiency and rigour in technical delivery by providing cross programme coordination and technical leadership.

The Anglian Water @one Alliance is a collaborative organization of consultants and contractors working together to deliver more than half of Anglian Waters capital investment programme. We will design and build around 800 schemes worth approximately £1.2billion. We design and construct water and water recycling (waste water) treatment centres that serve more than six million people in the East of England whilst maintaining and improving the water mains and the sewerage network in the region.

You will report directly to the Engineering Manager and duties/responsibilities of the role will include.

  • Drive excellence in Health and Safety in design
  • Be accountable for:- Quality of all design deliverables.- Technical delivery of least whole life cost solutions
  • Technical deliverables are produced within the required timescales
  • Technical costs are properly managed within the fee curves
  • Technical resources are managed effectively by working with the Programme Area Manager and Integrated Projects Leader to coordinate design resource
  • Required quality checking/approval procedures are carried out
  • Design teams adopt and make effective use of standard products
  • Relevant stakeholders are involved in design (particularly constructors, supply chain and ops)
  • Develop simple, effective technical delivery processes to improve the production of design deliverables to time/cost/quality
  • Work with the Engineering Manager, other Project Managers, Enabling Manager, Product Development Manager & CAD Manager to provide the leadership that will make the technical delivery within the Alliance industry-leading
  • Mentor the development of the design team
  • Provide reports for the Engineering Manager to present to the senior management team as a monthly update on technical delivery
  • Be responsible for CR&S areas of Sustainability in Design and Energy & Carbon, report progress & issues to the CR&S Manager
  • Work collaboratively with Shared Services teams on best practice in all CR&S areas while providing input & feedback on finding the best solutions to meet the CR&S targets
  • Provide Project Delivery Managers & Production Managers with guidelines & leadership on sustainability in design, ensure they provide input on design areas where they can maximise benefits in delivering sustainable assets

Essential

  • Extensive experience of multi-disciplinary design management, in a design-build environment
  • Degree in an engineering-related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer in an engineering-related discipline
  • Must be delivery-driven with the ability to set targets and manage and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver to time, cost and quality objectives
  • Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety
  • Extensive experience in large- scale project delivery
  • Strategic, operational, technical and management skills
  • Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment e.g. civil engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly

  • Experience of working for a global organisation
  • Experience of working with remote/dispersed teams
  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry
  • Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working
  • Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques
