Control Systems and Software Engineer

£40,000 to £60,000 - Dependent on experience


Introduction

We are currently looking to recruit experienced Controls and Software Engineers to join a world leader in remote handling for hostile environments. This includes Nuclear Fusion, Nuclear Decommissioning and High Energy Physics experiments, both domestically and on a global scale.

This role will suit engineers that are keen to work on cutting edge projects at the forefront of the sector and be involved with delivering challenging but rewarding solutions to real world problems.


The Job

Working from their headquarters near Oxford, you will be reporting into the lead control and software engineer for each package and will be working on the delivery of consultancy services, equipment design and implementation projects.

You will be implementing work programmes and project plans for small to medium sized projects with the support of a full engineering team. Managing the full lifecycle of projects will include creating specifications, designing, procurement activities, integration, commissioning and developing complex electro-mechanical devices.


The Candidate

The most desirable applicants will hold a recognised engineering degree level qualification (or equivalent), and a suggested 5 years or more of relevant and demonstrable experience in a number of the following disciplines, with the ability and desire to gain knowledge of the others:

  • Control theory
  • OO Software development (all stages) (preferably C++)
  • Actuator technologies
  • Sensor technologies
  • PLC and SCADA development (all stages)
  • FMEA
  • Robotics (Forward/inverse kinematics, trajectory generation)
  • UML/SysML
  • Databases
  • Motor drive technologies
  • Requirements analysis
  • Real-time software development and OS usage
  • Client interaction
  • Technical report writing
  • Communications (theory and practice at software and hardware levels)
  • Electrical
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Technical involvement with bids and tenders
  • Effective communication and collaboration within wider project teams
  • Excellent written and spoken English
