Where you'll work…

Our client are operating the full waste collection services for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and as such are seeking an capable Contract Manager to help drive this service forward.

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is a diverse borough, where 80% of the properties are flats ranging up to luxury apartments, including the famous Boundary Estate, by contrast it boasts luxury riverside apartments along the river Thames and Canary Wharf in the south of the Borough. Tower Hamlets is an ever changing Borough with many new developments, changes in priorities and recycling options where flexible solutions are needed without additional resources.

What you'll be doing…

As the Contract Manager for Collection Services (Refuse & Recycling), you will report to the Senior Contract Manager and will be responsible for managing and developing the performance of the contract in terms of service provision, budgets, resources and health and safety in line with company procedures and statutory regulations. You will support and develop 5 direct reports to enable them to deliver the full accountabilities for their roles and responsibility for achieving targeted levels of revenue, operational efficiency and customer service.

You will improve the environment in which we work for the benefit of both internal and external customers. You will also lead, manage, motivate and develop all direct reports and wider teams. You will plan the development and succession of the management team and their wider teams. You will be responsible for monitoring and managing recruitment activities across the contract, employee absence, staff turnover, headcount, agency staff resource, training and development, payroll, manage the relationships with the Unions, employee relations e.g. disciplinary, grievances.

Your business performance will be measured by achieving budgeted profit, operational performance and safety target and you will lead and develop an effective team, hold responsibility for relationship management e.g. Client, Councillors, Resident Associations and responsible for continuous development and improvements to service delivery and overall operations of the contract and ensure legal compliance across the contract. You will ensure service delivery in a 24 hour operation in line with contract specification and ensure high quality standards, resolve all contract issues with the Client to promote working in partnership.

Your Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications...

To be successful in this role we require you to be educated to degree level (preferably with a recognised management degree) and have extensive experience, gained in waste management.
You must have excellent people management experience with the ability to manage performance and motivate on an individual and team basis. An innovative approach driving imaginative solutions to problems and capable of challenging conventional business thinking, is required. This role would suit an individual who can demonstrate a well-rounded approach to managing large scale Waste Management contracts with a strong focus on people management, financial controls (including P&L) and client liaison.
