JOB TITLE: Bio- Hall Maintenance Engineer (days) - Waste Processing - up to £36k


LOCATION: Basildon

SALARY: Up to £36,000, plus overtime and benefits


An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Engineer to join our client on their Waste Processing Facility over in Basildon.


Our client is an International Recycling and Resource Management company, operating over 200 specialist treatment plants worldwide. Their new plant in Basildon is a fully operational Mechanical Biological Treatment facility processing residential waste from Essex. You will be working days from 6am to 6pm on a 2-week day shift pattern.

The role:

To be responsible for maintenance of Bio-hall equipment both PPM and reactive maintenance. To supervise, as the responsible person, the engineering cleaners working for you in that area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the maintenance of all Bio-hall plant and services. This involves greasing and replacing bearings, replacing and tracking belts and replacing rollers.

You will be expected to work safely following the company's safety procedures and to supervise the engineering cleaners ensuring their compliance.

You will undertake planned maintenance and reactive maintenance.

You may be asked to work elsewhere in the plant on any shift including weekend and nights.

You will provide a call out service on alternate weekends which will be paid at the company's overtime rate.

To take responsibility for identifying and repairing defects and to bring to the attention of your manager any potential hazards or means to improve the reliability of the plant.

Demonstrate a recognised engineering qualifications, ideally in both mechanical and electrical engineering.

Past experience will include:

Working in hazardous/confined spaces an advantage, however there will be a two month assessment period with another qualified engineer during which on the job training will be provided.

To be considered for the Engineer role you must be able to demonstrate a strong multi-skilled Maintenance Engineering background..

Working as part of the Maintenance team past knowledge on a MBT / Composting / Anaerobic Digestion / Recycling / Material Processing / FMCG / etc. would be advantageous. The plant consists of specialist equipment including conveyors, compactors, shredders, trommels, optical sorting equipment, Eddy current separators, motors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic kit.Therefore prior knowledge working on this type of equipment would be most helpful.

The Bio-hall itself also has extensive fans controlling temperature, odour and help aid the breakdown of organic matter. The working environment is often hot / humid as your will be working in the bio-hall itself.

You'll have worked in maintenance engineering / technician roles in manufacturing and production engineering environment.
