About the role:

Astute's Environmental team is exclusively partnered with a combined district vision for an environmentally sustainable future to recruit a Coastal Defence Manager for the Western Sussex Coastal range.

The Coastal Defence Manager is an environmentally critical position that will lead to the continued mitigation of climate change impacts and create an environmentally safe region for local residents, wildlife and flora. The role comes with a salary upto £59,000 +extensive benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Group Head of Environment & Climate Change you will:

• Act as a Lead Technical Advisor to drainage, coastal and flooding issues.
• Lead community engagement.
• Conduct daily management of Coastal Engineers and Flood Prevention Technicians and implement a framework for performance management.
• Financial Management of budgets and liaise with the head of Finance for upcoming yearly budgets.
• Management of contracts with local governing bodies.

Professional qualifications:

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Engineering Degree or related qualification (Time served apprentice, NVQ Level 3, HND etc) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.

Personal skills:

The Coastal Defence Manager role would suit someone who is experienced in:

• Managing services/people in an Engineering environment.
• Budget Management
• Report writing
• Working outside of hours to attend meetings
