About the role:
Astute's Power team is partnered with a global company, within the Energy from Waste/Biomass sector, to recruit a Shift Operations Technician for their 40MW Biomass Power Station in Port Talbot, South Wales.

The Shift Operations Technician role comes with competitive salary + overtime + benefits and will be working on a 24/7 shift basis.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Shift Team Leader you will be:
  • Using a DCS system you will be required to start, stop and monitor turbines, boilers, pumps, water treatment plant and more.
  • Ensuring the plant is operating within its parameters whilst complying with strict HSE rules and regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Performing plant walk round and daily checks to ensure equipment is operating correctly and efficiently.
  • Monitoring of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and perform corrective adjustments to the process when required.
  • Providing technical supervision and assistance where necessary for company and contract staff
  • Working within the company Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems
Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Ideally have an NVQ Level 3, as a minimum, in a relevant engineering discipline
  • A BOAS certificate will be highly advantageous
  • A Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH will be highly advantageous.
Personal skills:
The Shift Operations Technician will suit somebody who has:
  • Prior operations experience gained from heavy process engineering environments such as power generation (Energy from Waste, Biomass, CCGT, CHP, etc), Petrochemicals, Steel Production, etc.
  • Royal Navy Marine Engineers with significant watch keeping experience will also be considered - LET level as a minimum.
  • The willingness to learn and undergo a short training period which will involve learning the plant and the processes and procedures involved in operating the plant
  • A strong appreciation for HSE compliance at all times
