Chemical Engineer - Nuclear Consultancy
Bristol - £35-60,000 DOE
Astute are looking for an industrial chemist with current reactor chemistry experience to work in a consultancy environment providing technical support to a wide variety of exciting ongoing projects in the UK civil nuclear sector.
Demonstrable prior experience of analysing and modelling radiation and / or corrosive effects on materials in reactor systems, you will be a versatile and adaptable individual keen to use your core skills on a broad range of different projects.
In addition to your technical expertise you will be comfortable working in a client facing scenario, with the ability to maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders and the capacity to clearly and concisely convey complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications Required
An academic foundation in chemical / process engineering is essential, combined with experience across a number of the following areas:
- Primary (water) circuit and secondary (gas) circuit chemistry, and an understanding of materials selection and corrosion mechanisms is desired
- Current knowledge of PWR or ABWR reactor systems would be advantageous, with AGR also being of merit
- Radioactive / Radiological waste disposal strategy and management
- A working understanding of safety case production, alongside BAT and ALARP principles
- Project management knowledge and the ability to channel activities in a commercially astute manner
