Gemma joined Astute in December 2017 as a Recruitment Consultant within the Water team. When she was younger she wanted to be a Doctor, an ambition she carried with her through school, college and even University where she chose Biology for her degree. Gemma is a problem solver; she needs to understand why things work the way they do and enjoys the challenge of learning new terminology. Furthermore, she works best under pressure so enjoys a last minute deadline. Whilst studying, Gemma worked in retail. Her ability to confidently communicate with people meant that she flourished in a customer service role.
Although a difficult decision to make, Gemma had been enjoying the immediate gratification of work and wasn’t keen on a further 5 years’ worth of medical school. After a stint travelling in South-East Asia, Gemma decided to look for a problem-solving role that would inspire her yet also keep her on her toes. A family friend recommended a career in recruitment: personal development, career progression and impressive financial rewards were just to good an offer to refuse.
At the weekend Gemma can be found watching films, reading historical fiction, or indulging in a bit of wildlife watching with Sir David Attenborough. Each year she travels to America to visit relatives but has plans to travel across Europe (with a particular stopover in Italy which has absolutely nothing to do with the exceptional food and wine).
