Why are we walking?
I’ve taken up this challenge for two important reasons.
Firstly, it’s for a tremendous cause.
And secondly, I want to proudly say, “I did it!” This is a long, long walk, and I’ve been doing a lot of training leading up to this gigantic hike. For me, it will be a massive achievement being able to complete it with flying colours.
Life is a rollercoaster, and there’s always the risk of injuries that would prevent me from doing similar things in the future. That’s why I really want to SMASH this walk and our donation goals!

What Are We Doing ?
The Ultra Challenge South West Coast 50km walk is a new addition to the 2023 challenge roster.
This formidable trek begins in the shadows of the impressive Dunster Castle, located in Minehead. The route is a part of the stunning and famous 630-mile Coastal Path.
The 50km loop takes us over Exmoor, presenting us with a series of ups and downs and some truly magnificent views.
However, this beauty comes with a price - the route includes over 1600 metres of climb, making it a true test of endurance.
Our journey will start from Dunster at 9:30 am on the 5th of August, with free tea, coffee, biscuits, energy drinks, and water to fuel us for the challenge ahead.
Our first rest stop will be at Hill Road Car Park, followed by a mid-point stop at Porlock, where we'll enjoy a variety of free snacks and beverages.
The next stop will be at Dunkery Beacon, before we finally return to Dunster. Each stop is strategically placed to provide us with the necessary rest and refreshments to keep us going.
Throughout the 50km journey, snacks and drinks will be provided every 10-15 km.
At the halfway point, we'll have a picnic lunch and fizzy drinks to celebrate our progress.
Once we’ve completed the challenge, we'll be greeted with a BBQ, a glass of fizz, and a well-deserved medal and t-shirt.

Young Lives vs Cancer
At the start of each year, we select a specific charity to focus on and dedicate our fundraising efforts towards throughout the year. The charity committee, composed of nine members, gathers to discuss and propose one or two charities that they personally wish to support. The compiled list is then shared with the entire office, allowing everyone to choose the charity they would like to commit to. This decision-making process involves the entire company, as Astute places great value on sharing opinions and ideas and striving for collective commitment.
This year, we decided to sponsor Young Lives VS Cancer, a cause that holds great significance for us.
At Astute, there are a number of us who have had someone close to us experience cancer. This is something that affects more than just us at Astute, and we know and feel the impact that this has on patients and their families.
Young Lives vs Cancer Young Lives VS Cancer is a charitable organisation that provides invaluable support to chi ho are facing the challenges of cancer.
The charity addresses various aspects, ranging from financial assistance to mental well- being. They ensure ongoing support throughout the treatment and beyond, covering areas such as day-to-day assistance, managing cancer-related expenses, facilitating access to home centers close to hospitals, supporting education continuity, and providing bereavement support.
Astute is embarking on an extraordinary journey that will test our limits and create a lasting impact. We have challenged ourselves to a grueling 50km walk that will demand immense dedication, training, and effort. With every step we take, we will be raising funds to make a difference in the lives of those affected by childhood cancer.
