We are working with RPOne powered by the Morson Group to support their client Rolls Royce SMR (small modular reactor) in the recruitment of Process and Senior Process Engineers. This will aid in the design, construction, and delivery of a new fleet of small modular reactor power plants that will be a critical and strategic player in the race to net zero carbon emissions. The Process and Senior Process Engineers will develop reactor plant process and safety system design solutions from preliminary concept through to detailed design and regulatory acceptance. The role will involve the progression of nuclear system design concepts through a series of gated design reviews. Our client will consider candidates with experience within Oil & Gas, Utilities, nuclear and other Engineering Sectors.

The Job
Working as the Senior Process Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Apply systems and process engineering techniques to develop system design solutions from preliminary concept through to detailed design definition; this will include experience of trade-off studies to ensure an optimum design solution is produced.
  • Define and manage engineering requirements on reactor plant components, installations, controls and instrumentation.
  • Develop and implement verification & validation strategies for the assigned reactor systems at the various stages of design maturity.
  • Collaborate with other design teams to achieve a coherent and optimised power station solution.
  • Manage and plan own time to ensure on time delivery, cost and quality against all project deliverables.
  • Understand and articulate design risks, managing them as appropriate with the Reactor Systems Design Leads.
  • Act as technical representative for the assigned reactor systems at technical and project reviews.
  • Work with due regard to Health, Safety and Environment. Comply with corporate, business and legislative requirements. Champion company values, including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Be able to mentor and manage junior members of staff.

The Candidate
To be considered for this position candidates will be expected to be:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered, or working towards chartered status, with a relevant professional institute. For example; the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
  • Process system design experience.
  • Ideally, knowledge of nuclear system design and operation but other experience will be considered.
  • Planning and organising skills to manage programme activities and deliverables.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with any audience, quickly establishing credibility and buy-in.
