Introduction
We're working with RPOne powered by the Morson Group to support their client Rolls-Royce SMR (Small Modular Reactor) in the recruitment of a Reactor Plant Performance Analyst to join their team in Derby or Warrington, with flexible working. Working on the design and build of small nuclear reactors. You will work alongside systems design teams to understand the technical nature of the reactor plant design, and producing thermal hydraulic analyses which characterises system performance, informs intelligent design decisions and ultimately verifies the performance and safety of the final design. Successful candidates will develop analysis methods using industry standard codes (including RELAP, COBRA-TF, MAAP and GOTHIC), create and verify representative models of the reactor plant design, assess transient performance of the reactor duty and safety systems, and develop code validation cases against real world test data.
The Job
As a Reactor Plant Performance Analyst, you will be responsible for:
- Work with the plant design engineers to understand the technical nature of the reactor plant as well as the evidence required to inform technical decision making verify plant performance.
- Apply technical expertise to develop representative plant models, solve thermal-hydraulic problems and generate valid plant performance data.
- Develop and manage own technical work plans. Prioritise activities to ensure on time delivery, cost and quality for all project deliverables.
- Define and manage requirement traceability from design through to analysis, models and method validation.
- Ensure appropriate quality is achieved in all aspects of the analysis programme.
- Act as technical representative for assigned area of technical expertise. Present and inform technical or project reviews when required.
- Understand and articulate technical and programme risks, managing them as appropriate with the Reactor Plant Performance Team Leads.
- Experience analysts will be expected to provide technical supervision and coaching to other thermal hydraulic analysts working across the project, share technical knowledge and steer the direction of technical analysis to meet the needs of the programme.
The Candidate
To be considered for this position candidates will be expected to be:
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Physics, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered, or working towards chartered status, with a relevant professional institute. For example; the Institute of Physics.
- Excellent knowledge of thermal and hydraulic fundamentals. Ideally, knowledge and experience of reactor plant thermal and hydraulic behaviour.
- Experience utilising thermal hydraulic calculation methods. Ideally, experience utilising one or more industry standard codes such as RELAP, TRACE, COBRA, MAAP, GOTHIC or MELCOR.
- Planning and organising skills to manage programme activities and deliverables.
- Ability to communicate effectively with any audience, quickly establishing credibility and buy-in.
