Nuclear

ASTUTE’s Nuclear Division has been established in response to the imminent need in the UK for new Nuclear Power Stations and for the decomissioning of existing Nuclear sites. In 2009 the UK had 19 reactors generating up to one fifth of its electricity and all but one of these will be retired by 2023. The first of some 16 GWe of new-generation plants are expected to be on line about 2017.

A target of reducing UK greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 was announced by the government in October 2008, along with the observation that nuclear power would be essential to have any hope of achieving this. As recently as 2003 the UK government was very negative about the need for nuclear power, but this had changed by 2006. Then in mid 2009, the opening paragraphs in Britain’s Road to 2010 strategy said: "Nuclear power is a proven technology which generates low carbon electricity. It is affordable, dependable, safe, and capable of increasing diversity of energy supply. It is therefore an essential part of any global solution to the related and serious challenges of climate change and energy security… Nuclear energy is vital to the challenges of sustaining global growth, and tackling poverty."

ASTUTE’s Nuclear knowledge and experience comes from practical experience of working in the Industry, specifically Nuclear Reactors that are used to power the Royal Navy’s submarines. This combined with years of recruiting into the industry mean that ASTUTE is ideally placed to be your recruitment provider of choice.
